Mentoring Day for Therapists

A Skills and Interventions Day for therapists

  • Are you a therapist or counsellor and would welcome some hands-on practical support to develop and hone your therapeutic intervention skills?
  • Would you appreciate receiving direct feedback from your peers on what works and where you could experiment with new interventions?
  • Are you curious to know and learn how your colleague therapists intervene?
  • Do you sometimes feel that your knowledge isn't enough to help you work with your clients?
  • Do you welcome a safe space to share and explore where you are stuck with clients, and be invited and supported to practise new skills? And offer your own wisdom and experience to your fellow participants?

In this mentoring day for therapists, we delve into the complexities of your practice, addressing your challenging case loads, and practising therapeutic interventions and approaches, including, if desired, the  space to address your counter transference (which can subsequently be more deeply explored in supervision).

What does the mentoring day look like?

This is a highly interactive and practical day with like-minded therapists. Together we will co-create a safe and creative space for you to explore and experiment.  We take the day to share and normalise blunders and struggles and then we play with new ways of working and intervening. You also get to experience and receive feedback on what you do well, so that you can build on your qualities as you grow more confident in your interventions. The cases you bring to the table are based on your individual therapy work.  If you give relationship therapy, I offer a separate learning day to address the unique challenges in working with couples.

What you'll get

Because this is a small group setting, with heaps of opportunity to practise and experiment, you will dive deeper into the heart of your interventions and develop your intervention repertoire. We will do this through discussions and sharing, demonstrations, rehearsals, experiential exercises and reflective practices. Additionally, you will benefit from:

  • A collaborative learning environment: join a supportive group of therapists who share a commitment to learning and supporting their clients.
  • Practical next steps:  you'll leave the day with an action plan for yourself and practical steps to implement in your work with clients, hopefully leaving you feel more confident and inspired.
  • Support and guidance:  you will learn shared practices from your colleagues plus from my own experience as a therapist of 20 years, including my blunders.  I will facilitate the group, provide feedback and guidance throughout the day and involve the whole group in this shared interaction.

This day is for you if...

  • You are a therapist or counsellor that has been practising for at least 2 years and/or have accumulated consistent clinical hours in your practice (minimum 6 hours per week);-
  • You are open and curious to explore the way you work, including your blunders, and want to enhance your skills and offer support to your fellow participants.
